MILLION HECTARES OF NATURE RESERVE

Pira Lodge

The lodge is located in the province of Corrientes (northeast Argentina) in the middle of the Iberá marshlands within 1.3 million hectares of nature reserve. This area is twice the size of the Florida Everglades. It is right on the edge of a canal that gives direct access to the marshlands and the Corrientes River – which is just 15 minutes south of the lodge.

LARGE VARIETY OF UNIQUE ANIMALS

The Iberá marshland

The Iberá marshland is almost completely unexplored and uninhabited. It is home to more than 350 species of birds (parrots, kingfishers, ibis, herons), 85 species of mammals, and an incredible variety of flora.

The Pira Lodge offers you a spectacular view of the vast surrounding marshland. There is space for up to ten guests in five large rooms, each with its own entrance, private bathroom, two double beds and air conditioning. In a separate building there is the spacious living room, a bar and a dining room, from which large doors lead directly to the inviting and large veranda. The design of the lodge follows traditional inspirations, but does not lack any of the amenities of a modern hotel.

The Golden Dorado is an aggressive fish and once hooked it delivers an impressive fight with many acrobatic jumps. These tricky fish can be found very often close to junctions, on the edge of current eddies, reefs and wherever carpets of water hyacinths hang over the banks. You will fish on small rivers and in shallow water. However, the large fish are mostly found in the deeper sections.

Let your guide guide you as he will take you to a variety of varied locations where you can take on these exciting fish. The size is usually between 5 and 10 pounds. In some places, however, twenty pounders are also possible. Their intense, almost radiant golden color is covered with holographic, horizontal black stripes. This pattern, combined with the mighty jaws and razor-sharp teeth, gave the Dorado in Argentina the nickname “River Tiger”.
