The biggest bonefish in the caribbean

Bair’s Lodge

Andros has long been synonymous with fishing for the largest bonefish in the Caribbean. The south and especially the west of the island have a reputation for being able to catch a “giant” at any time.

The shallow coastline in Andros is one of the largest and most diverse in the world, offering both wading and boat fishing opportunities. The incredible range of classic bonefish areas with flats, creeks and bays, as well as the number and size of bones is exactly what makes South Andros the bonefish capital of the world.

PERMIT, TARPON, SNOOK

Unfished flats

The Bairs Lodge, famous for its access to the extensive and largely unfished flats to the south and west, is located between the bay to the south and Water Management Cays, near Little Creek.
This location allows guests easy access to the flats to the south and offers many sheltered locations, regardless of wind direction, even in the interior of the island.

In addition, guests at Bair’s Lodge have the opportunity to occasionally fish for permit, tarpon and snook. Offshore and reef fishing for wahoo, tuna, dorado, (seasonal billfish), snapper, barracuda and grouper can also be tried.

PRISTINE SANDBARS

Deep Creek and Little Creek

Every morning when you leave the Bairs Lodge, you get on a boat and can start fishing after just a few minutes. Or you may decide to go a little further and explore those pristine white sandbanks that Andros is famous for.

Both Deep Creek and Little Creek are just a few minutes from the lodge and spill into a large bay with many small coral islands.

THE FABLED WEST SIDE

Best conditions

Both creeks allow access to the fabled West Side and other pristine reefs to the south and south-west, offering the lucky angler the opportunity to fish for permit and tarpon to tackle the “Grand Slam”.

The southern flats are home to some of the largest schools of bonefish. Grassy Creek is about 40 minutes by boat from the lodge.

HAWKSBILL CREEK AND CISTERNE POINT

When the weather is nice, you can also fish Hawksbill Creek and Cisterne Point. There is very little fishing in this area, it is considered “the place to be” when it comes to numbers of fish. The Flats form an area as far as the eye can see, and wading right next to the big schools of bones is a very special experience.

Details

The Bairs Lodge is located on the east coast of South Andros in the Bahamas. Andros is the largest island in this archipelago, yet largely undiscovered. This pristine and unique island is criss-crossed by small rivers and large bights (canals). The Bairs Lodge is situated right between the two creeks Deep Creek and Little Creek, both no more than five minutes by boat from the lodge.

These two creeks form a large flat area in the estuary with hundreds of small reefs interconnected by deeper channels, together covering an area of about 300 square kilometres.

The pace of life on the island, like everywhere else in the entire Bahamas, is very quiet, and especially in South Andros, the local communities are very calm and family-oriented. Commercial fishing for fish and lobster are the mainstays of the island.

The tongue of the ocean runs along the coast of Andros, right next to the third largest coral reef in the world. Seasonal fishing for Wahoo, Dolphin and Tuna (occasionally Sailfish and Marlin) outside the reef can be excellent. On the reef itself there is ample opportunity to make acquaintance with species such as Barracuda, Snapper and Grouper.
